There’s something about mid-February that invites us to lean into warmth on purpose. Maybe that means floating away with a curmudgeonly balloon salesman and his 8-year-old stowaway as Disney-Pixar’s Up soars onto the big screen at the Eastman Theatre—with Michael Giacchino’s glorious score performed live. (If ever there were a cure for winter, it might be that first swell of music.)
Or perhaps your antidote to gray skies is color—thousands upon thousands of tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils brightening the historic mansion at the George Eastman Museum for Dutch Connection. Step inside and you can almost hear spring clearing its
throat.
If you’re feeling festive, Valentine’s weekend is brimming with options: sip and savor at the Ice Wine Festival at Casa Larga Vineyards, gather your favorite women for Galentine’s at Memorial Art Gallery, or be transported by music, history, and culture at the vibrant Carnaval Show at The Theater at Innovation Square.
And if what you need is a reminder of resilience—of how humans have always faced winter and found ways to thrive—step back in time with Winter Warriors at
Old Fort Niagara. There’s nothing like musket fire and frontier grit to make your heated car feel like a luxury.
The truth is, February can either shrink us inward… or invite us outward.
This week’s calendar is full of invitations: to laugh, to learn, to taste, to listen, to cheer, to wander. Pick one (or two), bundle up, and step into something that reminds you that community is the coziest place of all.
As always, I’m grateful you’re here.
